Canon MG2900 IJ Scan Utility
Canon MG2900 IJ Scan Utility Download– The Canon PIXMA MG2900 offers all the basics, including a wireless connection for mobile printing. Aimed at the students and the home market, printers are available in black or white and have a neat and modern look.
Canon Pixma MG2900 Design and Specs
The front is very undercut, reducing the overall footprint when the machine is open for printing. Superb for Canon printers, it feeds the paper from the tray on the back, which can hold up to 60 sheets, and feeds out to the telescopic output tray on the front. There is no front cover for the machine.
Having this straight paper path makes it easier to print on cards, since it doesn’t have to make the rate of 180 turn that the media in front-loading printers should be.
On top, a simple A4 scanner doesn’t have an automated document feeder – you won’t expect one at this price – and to the left is a very simple control panel, with a physical push button and a pin head LED.
Canon Pixma MG2900 Cartridges and connections
Twin cartridges, one black and another Tri-color, slots from the front, once you flip the panel behind the output tray. They are not easy to get and you need to push the cartridges to click into place, which is a little fiddly.
Cartridges are available in two capacities, although even the XL version has a maximum page count of 400 black pages and 300 colors.
Connection is via USB or wireless Link and Wi-Fi connection is easy to set up, with just a few keystrokes, one on the printer and the other on your router.
Canon Pixma MG2900 Print speed
Canon reviews PIXMA 2900 on 8ppm black color and 4ppm and in our test, we are quite close. Print our five-page Mono text completed in 47 seconds, giving a print speed of 6.4 ppm, but this increased to 6.7 ppm on a 20-page print. There are no duplex facilities on the machine, unless you rotate the paper by hand.
There are a few other important things this printer can’t do. It cannot print photos indefinitely, including photos that are empty in 15 x 10 cm, and cannot print on A4 photo paper, with or without Borders. Photo printing is quite likely to be used for an all-in-one entry-level, so this is an important drawback.
The five-page text mono and color graphics test return only 1.6 ppm, less than half a certain speed. A 15 x 10cm, bordered photo took 2:08 with the best quality, printed from the PC and 48s on the standard quality of the Android smartphones.
While these speeds are not breathtaking, they are not at all bad for printers at this price. However, the machine is very noisy for a relatively slow device and peaked at 76dBA at 0.5 m, when eating paper.
Canon Pixma MG2900 Print quality and cost
The printing quality of the machine is not what we expect from Canon. The black text is jittery, with multiple ink deployments and poor registrations from one head-Pass to the next. The fill color in business graphics is nice, but the reverse text shows the rupture of the black background. Photos are well reproduced, with natural colors and smooth transitions.
Using the XL version of the cartridge provides a page fee of 3.8 p for Mono print and 8.2 p for color, including 0.7 p for paper. It’s quite high, but not compared to other printers at the same price. For example, the £30 HP Officejet 1510 has an equivalent cost of 3.8 p and 9.2 p, or one penny per page colored higher than that of Canon.
There are pros and cons to this machine. It’s neat and small, but so does the HP Officejet 1510. The print quality of HP is better on plain paper and both printers offer very similar speeds. Canon offers a wireless connection, so it can print from mobiles and tablets as well as PCS, which HP can not, but it’s also a lot of noisier, 10dBA full louder than Officejet.
